“Yes to free sex (free of infections)” for safe sex
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can be prevented, treated and cured. Between us we can detect them and avoid contagion, and the campaign “Yes to free sex (free of infections)” aims to warn people about them, defend people’s right to enjoy sex within the context of consent and self-care and break down stereotypes.
Sex should be understood from the perspective of pleasure, respect and care towards ourselves and others. Because of this, and with the aim of safe and healthy sexual relations, people need to have proper information about STIs. To this end, the website for the campaign “Yes to free sex (free of infections)” offers full information on these illnesses, collated in consensus with health organisations as part of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy (ESSIR).
Despite little change in the levels of STIs during the pandemic and the drop in HIV infections in recent years, illnesses such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea have increased significantly to reach record figures, according to the Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB). The situation of syphilis and lymphogranuloma venereum is also being monitored.
Besides awareness about STIs, the campaign aims to defend people’s right to enjoy sex freely in a context of respect, breaking with stigmas and lack of knowledge. Information protects and takes care of us!
